A diversity of skill sets and life experiences is at the core of the Monochrome team. Passionate, eclectic, thoughtful, contrarian, with a love of experimentation, new ideas, and taking chances.
Dave has enjoyed multiple careers, involving fields as diverse as radar design, stealth aircraft technology, interventional neuroradiology, orthopedic surgery, and cardiac electrophysiology. More recently, he completed the online version of UC Davis’ winemaking program and helped with the winemaking at Villa Creek and Alta Colina wineries in Paso Robles before starting Monochrome in 2016. Dave earned BS, MS, and MBA degrees from Stanford University.
Riley graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BS in Agriculture Business and a minor in Viticulture, and then earned a Master’s degree in Enology and Viticulture in Montpellier, France and Udine, Italy. Since then, her winemaking experience includes working at L’Aventure (Paso Robles), Torbreck (Barossa Valley in Australia), Domaine d’Aupilhac (Montpeyroux, France), and more recently as assistant winemaker at Law Estate and currently at Desparada (both in Paso Robles). She also recently started her own wine brand, Hubba Wines. For Riley, Monochrome represents and opportunity to try out new ideas and explore her love of crafting interesting white wines.
We make our wines at ONX’s facility in Tin City (in Paso Robles), and would like to thank the entire ONX team (particularly Jeff, Drew, Lily and the rest of the production team) for their help and encouragement. We would also like to thank the tasting room staff for putting up with us wandering through their lovely tasting room on our way to and from the production areas.
